Meet the Pastor

Pastor Terrie Hay and his wife Mary Hay have pastored the Moberly Independent Holiness Church since October of 2015. They have been such a blessing!

Pastor Hay is originally from New Castle, IN and was called to preach at the age of seventeen. He started preaching in 1972 and he and his wife married in 1976. They have two children. He has pastored six churches.

Pastor Hay enjoys his hobbies of woodworking, fishing, hunting and playing guitar.

Pastor Hay’s personal mission and faith statement:

I have been pastoring now for over 40 years.  Someone asked me when I was going to retire, and I told them “why would I retire when I love doing what God called me to do!”

My mission as a pastor is to, first, preach messages that feed the flock, by keeping inspired myself. If I go to the platform without being inspired by what I am finding in God’s Word, I sure can’t help the people I am speaking to.  My inspiration comes from reading, studying, and praying. I rely on the help of the Holy Spirit’s anointing.

Second, I try to evangelize the lost.  I try to preach messages that make sinners feel like they are being cheated out of the best thing in life if they are not serving Jesus Christ. I preach on the danger of being lost, but the huge benefit of finding a loving, heavenly Father who is longing to pick them up out of the muck and mire of sin and set them free.

Finally, my goal is to show people you can be an old fashioned Christian and have fun doing it!  Having fun is an important part of being a disciple of Christ.  I have won more people by making friends with them and doing things like taking them fishing, going out to breakfast, and finding whatever they enjoy doing, and just spending time with them.

I try to live in such a way that others will see the joy of the Lord in my life both in preaching and in daily living.  When I found the Lord I found true joy, peace, and satisfaction.  Pastoring is more than preaching.  It is daily living to please Christ, and helping others find the thrill of giving their best for Christ.  Uncle Bud Robinson said, “Honey attracts more people than sour pickles! Give the world a smile!”
